In college, I majored in physics. My rigorous scientific education left me with a good scientific understanding of the world, but without much support for the Christian faith of my childhood. An Old Testament survey course taught by a theologically liberal professor only raised more questions than answers. I began seeking evidence that I knew would lead either to the strengthening of my faith or its complete abandonment. In due course, I stumbled upon some century-old teachings that convinced me that the Bible is true, and that the claims of Christianity regarding Jesus are valid. Here are some of the things I learned:
In Genesis 2 Jesus is foreshadowed as the second Adam, who was wounded in His side and placed into a deep sleep so that His bride the Church could be formed.
In Genesis 3:15 Jesus is represented by the seed of the woman who will crush the head of the old serpent.
In Genesis 3:21 He is foreshadowed as the One who clothes us with the righteousness of Christ.
In Genesis 4 He is represented by the acceptable offering of Abel, the firstborn of the flock.
In Genesis 6 He is foreshadowed as our true Noah’s Ark who can save us all from judgment and disaster.
In Genesis 22 He is represented by the ram with its head caught in the thorns and thistles, who was offered as a sacrifice in place of Abraham’s son Isaac.
In Genesis 37 through 39 He is foreshadowed by Joseph, who was conspired against, falsely accused, betrayed, sold for pieces of silver, and numbered with the transgressors.
I have barely scratched the surface.
I did not learn all this until I was a young adult. I found out about it on my own, from a couple of books published in the late 1800’s. Why weren’t most of us taught about how Jesus was foreshadowed in the Old Testament? I’m no conspiracy theorist. I believe this knowledge has simply been neglected, to our great detriment. I passionately believe this needs to be rectified. To that end, I wrote Decoding Bible Messages, a very readable contemporary presentation of the types and shadows of Christ in the Old Testament. I believe you will find it to be very interesting and enlightening, and it could be a great Christmas gift for friends and family. But most importantly, if enough people buy it, then this teaching may be propelled back into its rightful place of prominence in Christian education.
So I am asking you to purchase the book. It is available in both paper and electronic form. Here is the direct link to the book in the Westbow Press Bookstore:
